“Beauty is now as much a man’s responsibility as a woman’s.”
- David Leddick, The Male Nude

Following the success of last summer’s CLASSIC BEAUTY: Photographs of Female Nudes, Throckmorton Fine Art is pleased to announce CLASSIC BEAUTY: PART 2, Photographs of the Male Nude.

A mixture of vintage and new, the exhibition will offer works for both classic and contemporary audiences, while also exploring the history of male nude photography.  On display will be nineteenth century examples by Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden, one of the earliest known photographers to take still nudes of males, as well as works by the Baron’s cousin, Guglielmo Pluschow.  Also on view will be recent acquisitions of twentieth century photos by Herb Ritts (Waterfall II, Hollywood, 1988), Argentinean artist, Marcos Zimmermann (Muchacho y perro, Corrientes, 1997), and Taiwanese newcomer, Kao Yuan (Japan #1, Tattooed gangster, 1991).  In the twenty-first century, the British team, Anderson & Low, embrace the digital revolution with mural size C-type prints (Aaron Jackson, Gymnast, USAFA, 2001) asserting a place for large format images in the history of male nude photography.
