VALDIR CRUZ
Ocaminho das águas
THE WATER'S WAY
APRIL 3 - MAY 10, 2008
BOOK AVAILABLE
Throckmorton Fine Art is pleased to announce our upcoming photography exhibition, Ocaminho das águas (The Waters’ Way), photography by Valdir Cruz. The images in the collection are from Paraná, Brazil, a crossroads of ecology and culture. Everything, though, depends on the life-giving force of water. And Paraná is rich in water, including the spectacular Iguacú Falls. Valdir captures the vitality and power of moving water, and the way it commands such a presence in the landscape of this corner of Brazil. The photographs document a treasured
eco-system, one that needs to be protected.
By using the technique of long exposure, Valdir is able to capture the intensity of moving water, holding still—for his photographs—every current. The result is stunning detail, and yet also a sense of monumentality.
Valdir was born and raised in Brazil. Presently, he divides his time between New York and Brazil. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1996. His work is included in the collections of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the New York Public Library, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
